Where to register your web pages, META tags, etc.
(with search engines and data bases)
- Search Engine Tutorial
of web designers
- This web site includes:
META MEDIC!
(Go to the bottom of the web page to submit your URLs.) This program
checks to see whether your META tags are in compliance with the top search engines. META
tags are used by search engines, robots, spiders, etc. to "index" your web site.
Some META tags include: author, description (limit is 200 characters), keywords (limit is
1000 characters with a repeat limit of three for any word), etc. To see what this look
like, check the META tags for this web page by clicking on "View", then
"Source" (or "Document Source") in your browser main menu.
META tags go in between the <HEAD> and <TITLE> tags.

#2 - How to center any image on a web page no matter what screen resolution it
is being viewed at. This works with Netscape 3.0 and 4.0 and Internet Explorer 4.0 (and
maybe 3.0). Thanks to DLGreer at Win.net.
This is the "source code" that he used:
<head><title>Test for center</title></head>
<table WIDTH="100%" HEIGHT="100%" BORDER="0">
<tr VALIGN="middle"><td ALIGN="center"><img
SRC="cx650.gif" ALT="This is a motorcycle" WIDTH="130"
HEIGHT="102">
</td></tr></table>
I put this entire web page inside a table along the
"transition" effect (listed in the next example) which apparently is
only visible using Internet Explorer 4.0 or above:
Wonder Woman and other Super Heroines: Catwoman, Supergirl, and
XENA, Warrior Princess
#3 - This is how to get the web page to "transition" in and out (if
viewed from Interent Explorer 4.0) making it look magical. Add the four bolded line
of HTML coding as indicated below:
<html>
<head>
<title>Title of web page goes here</title>
<meta http-equiv="Page-Enter"
content="revealTrans(Duration=2.0,Transition=12)">
<meta http-equiv="Page-Exit"
content="revealTrans(Duration=2.0,Transition=12)">
<meta http-equiv="Site-Enter"
content="revealTrans(Duration=2.0,Transition=12)">
<meta http-equiv="Site-Exit"
content="revealTrans(Duration=2.0,Transition=12)">
</head><body>
This is the body of the web page, that is, its contents as seen in Web browsers.
</body>
</html>
Now, click here to see what I mean.
I put this entire web page inside a table (see first example) along this
"transition" effect:
Wonder Woman and other Super Heroines: Catwoman, Supergirl, and
XENA, Warrior Princess

My Home Page Tips for 1999
It is not necessary to learn any HTML just to get started if you use a
HTML editor like FrontPage Express which is free as part of Microsoft's
Internet Explorer.
But, you really should learn a little HTML so that you can "tweak" your web pages
just the way you want them to appear.
I started out using demo and shareware HTML
editors: I found HTML Writer easy to
use and it doesn't have an expiration date.
I've made the transition to Microsoft's Front Page
because
of the ease of use and that I have so
many links that I need the "link verifier" function to help me locate
"broken links". FrontPage 98 Express does not have these more advanced
features.
I have found two books about HTML very helpful:
"HTML Visual Quick Reference" by QUE, 1995, for $14.99, gives examples
of how to design Hypertext Markup Language, HTML, documents on the left page and, then,
shows you what the document will look like on the right page. HTML is never intimidating
after reading this book! (Note: "HTML
Visual Quick Reference, Version 3.2" is now available at Amazon.com.
Check for the latest version before you buy.)
"Special Edition ... Using HTML: The Most Complete Reference" by QUE, 1995,
for $39.99, contains a CD-ROM full of freeware, shareware, and demos of HTML editors,
templates, graphic converters, WWW browsers and applications, and more... for PC, Macs,
and Unix workstations. I had spent hours "surfing" the WWW downloading many of
these programs before this book was published. (Note: "Special
Edition ... Using HTML 4" is now available at Amazon.com.
Check for the latest version before you buy and try to get one that has a free
CD-ROM full of Internet-related software.)
For those of you who are just learning about the WWW and home/web pages,
thoroughly check out this web page, as well as the other web pages that are part
of my "Internet Help Files".
