Cella remembers Myrtie as "quick, fast, impatient, on the go." "Mom Baker Would joke that Myrtie would can her peaches green." Myrtie's husband, Tye Lethus Bland, farmed. Myrtie and Tye had one of first record players in the area. "We went up on Saturday nights and other kids would come by, and we would listen to their records, especially "The Preacher and the Bear." [That Edison cylinder player is in poss of Doyle Baker.] Myrtie and Tye had no children, but they would buy things for Cella and the kids. They had the first car in the area, maybe a Model T. Myrtie and Tye would take Cella and the kids to town and to visit churches. BIRTH: Tye's birth date would approximate Myrtie's, 1884. Cella remembers Tye as liking to visit area churches, liking to sing, and giving occasional denominational talks. Cecil says Tye like to sing and was a song leader at Oak Grove Church. Had a tuning fork which Cecil has somewhere. Tye could read music and determine the key. They church had 'singings' and read shape note style music. Doyle remembers Tye leading the singing. Tye and Mentle would take turns leading the prayers. Tye taught Sunday school and studied the Bible. During the winter the congregation met only once a month, on Saturday afternoons. There were no lamps at first to light the evening services. Later the church acquired kerosens chandeliers. Tye was killed in traffic collision near Somerset stockyards. Did not see well due to loss of one eye shucking corn. Had one glass eye.
